Southridgians Take Over Chalk Bluff

This week Southridgians paused to ask themselves what they should do in case of a hurricane such as Hurricane Dolly that blew into the Texas coast on Wednesday. The obvious answer was for everyone to pack up all their water toys and head to the river! Thursday morning Southridgians packed up for our three day weekend at Chalk Bluff near Uvalde, Texas. It rained on us throughout the drive and even a little once we actually got to the park. We knew we could outlast any storm though, as long as we had enough beer and cigarettes.

Friday morning the smell of bacon and eggs was detected and soon all the Southridge board members were in line for one of Juan’s tacos. After a couple of hours of airing up floaties, everyone jumped into their swim suits and coated themselves with sun block. We headed down to the river and staked out some prime territory. Then after unloading tubes, floaties, and ice chests for approximately an hour, we actually got our feet wet. HOLY MOLY!!!! That stuff was cold!!!!!! The kids kept telling us it wasn’t cold once you got used to it, but I think they all had a fever. It really didn’t help that we had a huge arsenal of water guns ready to take action on the nearest mom that didn’t want to get her hair wet.

After going back up to the cabins, having dinner, and cleaning up our resident tech man Tim, supplied us with some entertainment via the projector. Apparently someone lead him to believe that the movie “Nacho Libre” was entertainment. There were some funny scenes though and I think Jeff is probably still singing “Encarnacion.” So thanks a million Tim for always taking care of our entertainment for the night!

On Saturday the water had warmed up a bit and we took about half the water toys from the day before. Of course we made up for the toys by bringing more ice chests. The guys enjoyed taking the paddle boat way down stream. Still don’t know what was so interesting down there. They also came up with a new game called, “Try to hit Shannon in the head with a water balloon from 50 feet away with the sling shot from hell.” Well there was one success with the water balloons. Even though it wasn’t my head, Shelbie is the only one that made contact, good shot girl!!!!!

Once everyone made it back to camp and settled in Jeff, Juan, and Gilbert discovered the play ground. This is no ordinary play ground though. Remember the old play grounds back before most moms didn’t worry about getting a tetanus shot every five minutes? You know, the metal toys that are usually really fast or really high and have lots of ways to get hurt? Well they found one of the old whirly bird toys that spins really fast. It looked pretty fun so I jumped on. HOLY MOLY!! Much longer on that thing and I may have needed a bucket. The guys then thought it would be nice if they let the kids play for awhile, but it was still hard to get Jeff and James off the tetanus swings.

Saturday evening almost everyone went on a hayride through the park, by the petting zoo, and out to the “Arrowhead Grounds.” Good job on finding all those arrowheads kids!! After the hayride and dinner, Tech Man Tim set up his projector again and treated us to “Transformers.” I have to say that this has become one of my favorite movies even though I don’t normally like that type of movie. Poor Bubble Bee, leave him alone!!!!

We had a great weekend and can’t wait to do it again next year!!

We’d like to wish Teresa a happy birthday. She won’t be around Saturday, so………..Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you. Happy birthday dear Teresa, happy birthday to you! Have fun in your blue paradise and give the stingrays a kiss for me.
