Miller Fishing Report – We Suck!!!!

This week the blog is a little different. I have no knowledge of any activities that went on in Southridge this weekend due to the fact we were in Port Aransas with my crazy family. So yall get to get acquainted with my Dad’s side of my family, the Millers.

Jeff, Jessica, and I left for Port Aransas on Thursday morning and arrived around 2:00 PM. We had reserved a room at the Double Bar Cottages again because it’s about the only spot on the island that allows large dogs. My brother and sister-in-law (Brandon & Debbie) were sharing a cottage with us and bringing their Weimaraner, Zoë with them. The three of us rested for a little while then headed to the jetties off of the marina. We got set up and started to fish. You would think I would be really disappointed catching perch after perch, but when you have two huge pelicans standing a foot away from you wanting those perch, it’s kinda fun. The two pelicans (Brutus & Harry) would watch us fish and as soon as they saw a perch on the line, they were knocking each other out of the way to get to it. I was taking the fish off my hook as fast as possible (they were very impatient) and tossing it into their mouths. You could see the perch fighting all the way down their throats. Harry & Brutus were like bottomless pits. They just kept eating and eating, little piggy pelicans!

Later we got together with Little Bob (my cousin) and Nicole (his wife) for dinner at Spaghetti works. The food was really good, especially the bread. Jeff didn’t like our waiter as usual, didn’t get enough tea. Uncle Larry, Aunt Carole, Brandon (my brother), Debbie (his hot wife), Rodney (my cousin), and Mathew (his son) showed up later that night and we hung out for awhile. Thank goodness Rodney got to the ferry in time! You know they close that thing down at 10:45 PM and they close the bridge on the other side of the island at 11:00 PM.

On Friday we set up in the flats across from the Crab Man bait shop and started fishing. Once again not a lot biting except for little trout and perch, but we aren’t quitters! Jessica and Debbie were taking a leisurely spin in the paddle boat when Zoë decided she wanted to join them. She was a very happy girl and looked like Cleopatra being driven down the Nile. When it was time to leave and start getting cleaned up for dinner, Uncle Larry determined that deep, wet sand is no place for a mini van. Notice where Jeff is standing while Brandon and the girls are pushing the back of the van and Little Bob is trying to pull it out?

My cousin Cindy, her husband Allan, and son Corbin arrived just in time to set their stuff down and join us for dinner at Station & Beach Street Grill. When we got there my cousin Lynette, her husband Paul, and daughter Courtney were already looking over the menu along with Beau and Darlene (my aunt’s sister and brother-in-law). We were all seated on the deck of the restaurant where there was a live band playing. When I had called for reservations, I had thought the band’s name was Tuna Fish. Turns out it was Triggerfish. Triggerfish is a much cooler name that Tuna Fish. Now this restaurant is small and don’t count on getting all your food at the same time if your in a large group. To tell the truth, don’t plan on getting your food in the same hour. However, the food and ambiance is fantastic! I had the char grilled flounder and shrimp again, Jessica had the seafood boil, and Jeff had steak and shrimp. Yum, yum, yum! Don’t ever count on this restaurant being a quick in and out meal, but the food is the best on the island if you ask me.

On Saturday everyone took it easy until about 2:30 when we headed over to the Dolphin Docks to wait on our deep sea fishing trip to start. We sat and watching as the deck hands took stringer after stinger of snapper off the very boat we would be heading out on soon. Man it would be great to get a stinger full of beautiful red snapper! After boarding and a short safety briefing by the deck hands, we headed out into open water. Everyone was excited with the possibilities of a great catch. I personally would love to catch a big shark just to experience the fight and to say I had. Well guess what? Aunt Carole and some other yahoo are the only ones that caught anything!!! Aunt Carole caught a really nice King Fish that was determined to torture her ribs, but she landed it! Way to go Aunt Carole!! It was funny that right before she caught it, Uncle Larry had just told me that he didn’t care if he didn’t catch anything, but would like to see Aunt Carole catch something. See Aunt Carole, he is your lucky charm!! Gooly Goo Goo!!

We had a great time this weekend and can’t wait to do it again. It’s always so much fun hanging out and getting to see each other’s faces again. So until next time, here’s some watermelon kisses going out to all of you! OOOOOOOOO

Had a great time this weekend. Fishing wasn't the greatest but had a damn good time. Still wonder if Uncle Larry ever found those people that were looking for him, sure had a lot of banana peels laying around that van of his.
