Well it’s the first blog of the New Year and I’d like to start this one a little differently. I’d like everyone to stop what they are doing and pick up a pen, some paper, and a rubber band. I have an assignment for you. First write down “weekend of June 5th,” then below that write “make Chalk Bluff reservation.” Now tie the rubber band really tightly around your index finger and do not remove until you are positive you have a cabin, RV spot, or tent space for our summer kick off. I’ve included a piece of Chalk Bluff’s facility map. The red square shows where Tim & Terri place their camper, the green outline is Tetanus Playground, and the blue star is the cabin (Russell) that Jeff & I have reserved. We had planned on staying in one of the newer cabins, but then realized that air conditioning wasn’t listed as one of their amenities. NOT GOOD!!! We are going down that Thursday and staying till Sunday. Please hurry and make your reservations, I’m sure they will fill up very quickly especially since it’s the first weekend after school ends.
I know I haven’t given any updates in a couple of weeks so pay attention and take notes if you have to. Let’s start with Christmas Eve. Jeff, Jess, & I made our annual Christmas Eve trip to his Dad’s house in San Antonio. Being around Jeff & his Dad is like Jeff times two in stereo. They are two peas in a pod and it’s like they read each other’s minds when it comes to the smart ass comment category. I love it though! We really don’t get to see them as much as we would like so any time is always great.
Meanwhile the Bandit Gang for the second year in a row somehow knew that we would be out of town for a few hours. The ruthless gang gift wrapped the doors and windows to our home as well as planting their signature forks in the yard. Then things got really ugly. Blinking colored lights were strung all over Jeff’s truck. Oh the humanity!!! We’ve heard from a Bandit informant that he is looking to strike Teresa’s house next. So Teresa, be afraid, be very afraid!
On Christmas Day we got up and opened a few presents at home, then headed to my parent’s house in Pleasanton. As you can see Jess was very excited to get her Hello Kitty floor mats. She also got a Hello Kitty license plate cover, rob, jewelry, and shirts. If it has Hello Kitty on it, she got it. She and Jeff also finally got a Playstation 2 along with like 15 games. After lunch we headed back to the house to unload the car then reload it with gifts to head to Jeff’s mom’s house. Mona & David came in from that liberal shit hole Colorado and it’s always fabulous to see them. (Let’s hope they get back to Texas before they are brainwashed.) After gifts and some more ham (which Jeff’s Dad served as well as my Mom) we headed home. I was pretty tired so I stayed in, but Jeff headed to the Carpenter’s for a little unwind.
The next night we gathered at Tim & Terri’s to experience “Rock Band” for Wii. Let me tell you, it’s going to be difficult to get the guys off this thing. It was a present for Shelbie and Cameron but I’ve only seen the kids play like a couple of times. Later we headed to the Oasis for karaoke. There were a ton of people there and we didn’t get to sing much, but it was a fabulous time and we were happy to see everyone! Once again we ended up at the Carpenter’s After Party and guess what? The guys started playing Rock Band again. Okay, “Sweet Home Alabama” is getting just a little irritating, but I still love the song.
Skip forward to New Years Eve and guess what? The guys are playing Rock Band again at the Pre Party. Oh fun. We got to the Oasis pretty early this time and sat at our Reserved For Southridge table. We quickly got a karaoke song book and started writing down our choices. Now somehow this became a battle of the sexes. First Samantha submitted Michael Jackson’s “Bad” for the guys to sing. Let’s just say the guys didn’t appreciate it but were great sports about it. It was a jaw dropping performance, but I guess they decided to have a little fun of their own cause next thing I knew the girls were surprised to learn they would be singing “Acky Breaky Heart.” This went back and forth most of the night. And what karaoke night at the O would be complete without Jeff and his version of “I’m Too Sexy.” We also learned that Gary can not walk and carry tamales, while trying to run to the microphone. Things wound down around midnight and we headed back to Southridge, oh and to more Rock Band. I’ve always loved “Sweet Home Alabama” but by now it’s like nails on a chalk board.
